Discover the back-to-school trends that reigned supreme this season within kids, tweens and teens, and college students that are expected to stick around for next year, too.

What's New in Kids

Prints and graphics reign supreme in kids apparel and we are seeing a variety of market favorites emerge from mixed plaids to happy faces and animal graphics. Backpacks—a must-have accessory—are seeing fun updates that play with texture and print alongside charms that allow for personalization. As for footwear, boots have proved to be the focal point; however, athletic shoes are a major key player here too whether a Mary Jane sneaker, Converse, or classic Nike. Outerwear pieces are experiencing a style refresh that feels more elevated like the girls peacoat and patched bomber jacket as well.

What's New in Tweens & Teens

Tweens and teens in middle school and high school are taking styling cues from the early aughts and it-items within Womenswear. Feelings of nostalgia are a driving force in the industry right now—think Hollister’s 2000’s Vault collection or LoveShackFancy’s collab with PINK. Trends reminiscent of what Millennials wore in middle and high school—think the plaid poncho, low rise jeans, and more—are making a comeback whereas other trends like cork shoes, baggy wide leg jeans, and star pimple patches are purely Gen Alpha. With access to the internet, this age group is hyper-focused on what’s trendy and desire a branded look.

What's New in College

College trends are leaning nostalgic and preppy this year. Recruitment outfits and white dresses are a must-have, especially with #rushtok taking over TikTok FYP’s. Game day looks with patchwork footballs and phrases are on the rise, paired with trendy pieces—think bloomer shorts, fringe boots, and baseball caps. Runway inspired favorites are on the rise like the barn jacket, fitted cardigan, and pointed toe mules, and suede is the material of the year in all categories. As for dorm rooms, neutral color palettes with subtle color pops are a top trend as well as wall art, plant holders, and multi-use furniture—like makeup desks or storage bin footstools.
