This season, our Fashion + Beauty Director headed to Los Angeles to understand how Womenswear trends translated from the runways to everyday-wear in the city that’s known for mastering the laidback and effortlessly cool way of dressing.
Read ahead for the top trends seen within the market, as late summer and early fall receipts hit the floors.
FAST FACTS
Top Colors: Mid-tone blues were most saturated (cobalt was emerging), butter yellow had a strong presence, orange-toned reds felt more fresh than tried-and-true primary (which was the majority of SKUs), emerald green was frequented on sale racks, chocolate brown was trending and looked elevated across markets Top Prints: gingham, polka dots, and whimsical summer motifs
Within tops, three items reigned supreme: the babydoll tank (whether it be a halter or cami), the little knit top (punctuated with an interesting neckline or draping), and the shell top (done in a variety of cuts and fabrics)
Majority of dresses were mini lengths and followed by maxi; next to no midis
Jewelry offered up whimsical motifs and elevated, molten metals; overall, chunky looks were more present than dainty
Hit or Miss: Ruffles and volume (think bubble hems and puffed sleeves) either looked forward or extremely dated. Many missed the mark by overusing previous best-seller styles that looked tired
