New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2026 Recap

New York Fashion Week

Spring/Summer 2026

Blog Post Horizontal Image (61)

The Spring/Summer 2026 season sought out to bring balance into the New York fashion scene. Designers leaned into both wearability and emotion––as mentioned in our Macro Trends 2025 report, the state of the world is fragile and it reflects in the way we dress. Consumers are conscious of their spending––looking for pieces with a high wearability factor that still feel special––while brands are keeping salability top of mind. We saw this mindset play out in two ways: emotional minimalism and darker escapes.

Minimalism was done in an exciting way this season; artful draping was key, shine was added to staple items, and nostalgia-led accessories like bowling bags, oversized sunnies, and flip flops led in accessories. Creative color combinations were an eye-catching and easy styling cue. Plus, the idea of escapism continues to evolve––we still saw some seaside nods included throughout collections in tandem to a darker undertone shown through deconstructed clothing, muted and dark colors at a higher rate than a typical Spring/Summer season, and covered-up silhouettes.

MACRO-TREND ANALYSIS

DARKER ESCAPES

While the underlying message of bohemia still holds true, we’re seeing this alternative trend evolve. Now, balloon pants and sleeves are leading this trend. We saw billowing silhouettes styled back to tougher leather pieces like funnel neck jackets. Plus, there was a decrease in skin-showing pieces in lieu of a covered approach to dressing and a return to more tailored suiting of decades past that give a buttoned-up undertone, rather than relaxed and free.

EMOTIONAL MINIMALISM

This season, the question at hand was, “how can we drive into pieces that’ll actually sell while still excite the customer?” Cue, emotional minimalism. This trend story balances closet staples with wearable and comfortable upgrades like draping or simple additions of shine. Nostalgia led accessories and jewelry offered personality-showing opportunities with pendant necklaces and statement bracelets. Overall, the details should reflect the brand messaging and your customers’ tastes.
