Recently, trends from the ‘60s are making a comeback thanks to the cyclical nature of fashion. Think bright colors, bold prints and retro styles that nod to the ladylike style of Jackie Kennedy as well as Aquarian hippie aesthetics. With pop culture influences from Palme Royale and ‘60s trends making statements on the runway, it is no surprise that these trends are growing within fashion and beauty markets.
Prints & Colors
Prints are feeling fun and flirty this season as bold patterns from the past are making a comeback. Pucci (inspired) print, made popular by Emilio Pucci, is up +78% in market adoption to last year found at retailers like Net-A-Porter and Saks Fifth Avenue. Consumers are also on the hunt for authentic, thrifted Pucci pieces, especially those made by Emilio himself. Vintage florals (+72% to LY) showed aplenty at the SS25 shows, and in contrast, we also saw an array of dainty, elegant florals that felt more refined than the bright psychedelic prints of the past. Vibrant colors such as tangerine, pink, lime green and electric blues are top trending hues expected to grow in fruition through 2025.
Apparel
Within apparel, a-line pieces are a strong contender in the womenswear market. A-line mini skirts are +38% in market adoption to last year, popularly sold by Alice + Olivia in tweed and vegan leather. Babydoll dresses—an iconic style of the ‘60s—are +22% in searches to last year, and this trend is gaining traction on social media with 66.8M views on TikTok thanks to designers like Coach and Giambattista Valli showing updated versions of the style recently. Popular this fall, box coats (+44% to LY) and sailor jeans (+28% to LY) are consumer top picks for the season while other retro styles including knit tops, +41% in market adoption to last year, and a variety of cool crochets—like the crochet sweater (+69% to LY)—are on the rise, too.
Footwear & Accessories
Footwear and accessories are reflecting the zeitgeist of the ‘60s with an elevated twist. For example, platform boots are nodding to the nostalgia of the go go boot, up +293% to last year. Unlike the literal go go girl style, current go go boots on the market feel chic and wearable for any and all occasions. Similarly, Mary Jane heels are +79% in market adoption to last year, notably seen in cherry red, burgundy and black. The Louis Vuitton Speedy bag (+21% to LY) is experiencing accelerated growth at the moment, made famous in the ‘60s by Audrey Hepburn’s special request for a smaller, more portable size in the bag, giving birth to the Speedy 25. Pillbox hats, a Jackie O favorite, are making a return up +169% in market adoption as seen on Altuzarra’s runway. Noticeably bohemian, oversized sunglasses and head scarfs (+29% to LY) first stood out at music festivals this summer and continue to grow in consumer interest.
Beauty
Beauty in the ‘60s revolved around girlish looks focusing on doe eyes, pink lips and lots of powder for a matte finish. Cat eyes (+69% Market Adoption) with eccentric liner and doll lashes (+27% to LY)—note Twiggy—were essential to ‘60s mod makeup and is once again a popular beauty look. Pink lips were a must-have and products in the market are up +32% in market adoption to last year, especially after Sandy Liang’s frosty pink lips made waves online during her SS25 collection. For a minimal flushed look, peach blush (+28% to LY) is a go-to, currently growing on TikTok with over 54M views. And as for hair, Birkin bangs are an emerging trend—shoutout to the iconic Jane Birkin—along with Barbie flipped hair, up +2% in searches to last year.
